Lucia Palmieri has sung from the stage at a sold-out Carnegie Hall show, entertained throngs in Central Park and has performed with the New York City Grand Opera, but through this weekend, the soprano will be at a decidedly closer venue — the First Congregational Church in Old Greenwich, where she is starring in “Sing for Your Supper,” an evening of the best of Rodgers and Hart’s Broadway songs.
As presented by the Connecticut Playmakers, this performance highlights 40 of the more than 500 songs Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart wrote for dozens of Broadway musicals. The remaining shows are tonight and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. In Area jazz pianist Chris Coogan is providing the accompaniment and serving as musical director.
Audiences will enjoy such classic tunes as “The Lady Is A Tramp,” “Where or When,” “Blue Moon,” “Lover” and more.
“This show brings the best of Broadway to Connecticut for what you’d pay to park your car for a couple hours in Manhattan,” Director Donna McLaughlin Wyant said in a news release. She is an Emmy- and Clio-award-winning producer who has worked with Tony Bennett, Donna Summer, Natalie Cole and the Irish Tenors.
Palmieri, who grew up in Westport and still lives there, is performing with tenor soloist Patric Hale, also a Connecticut native and award-winning singer.
